The Proposal

We had planned for quite some time to visit Ray's family in Indonesia. After months of planning our long awaited trip to Indonesia we finally arrived on April of 2006. Ray always talked about his best memories of fishing trips with the family and (of course) the food! So naturally, we planned for a fishing excursion! Oh, I forgot to mention, I even got a brand new fishing pole from Ray's dad for Christmas (that was supposedly the first hint).

On April 8th, we set sail for Samalona Island (located 1/2 mile off the coast of Ujung Pandang, formally known as Makassar). On our way to this beautiful tiny island, we stopped to fish. We all fished and had our own lines. The experience was breathtaking so I tuned out for a bit. I was awaken to reality by Ray asking me to switch to the other side of the boat and to swap fishing poles with his dad. I was a little reluctant at first but since Ray's dad was "complaining" about the heat, I finally agreed. (Nice acting, Dad)

After the switch-a-roo, Ray thought it would be a good idea to check the bait.
My response: "mmm, no, I think it's okay".
Ray's quick thinking prompted: "oooh, I think you caught something".
I gave the pole a tug and didn't feel as if I had. Still, my response, "mmm, no I don't think so".
Finally, Ray convinced me to reel in the line. As I'm reeling, I'm checking for fish. No fish. I looked for the bait. YES, I see bait but I also thought the line was crossed. I shook the pole but Ray frantically takes a hold of the pole to help me. As this section gets closer, I realized.............
I'VE CAUGHT A RING! YES, I THOUGHT I CAUGHT A RING OUT OF THE DEEP BLUE SEA! (silly, I know)

My heart dropped (not because I thought it was a proposal but) because I thought someone had lost their ring! Still fixated on catching a ring, I didn't notice Ray kneeling to propose. I bent down to him and whispered, "Oh my, honey I caught a ring!" He attempts to get my attention and does by asking once more, "Boo, will you marry me?"

The boat of 10 people is now silent. By the way, this is when it dawned on me! I cry (of course), realized I hadn't yet said yes, SO FINALLY.....I SAID YES!

ps. For those wondering about the ring.... it was a CZ. We visited our jeweler when we returned to Seattle. ;)
