Gift Registry

We are very fortunate to have such special people like you in our lives. When we started putting our lives together, we quickly realized that we had two of everything - and in some cases even three. So this gift registry is going to be a little different. In honor of our cultures and the traditions that our families have raised us with, we're going to do things a little more old school.

The Chinese wedding gift giving tradition is very similar to the Laotian tradition. In both cultures, monetary gifts are given. With the idea that the gifts help the couple get a start on their new life together. In the Chinese tradition, red envelopes (usually found in Chinese grocery stores) are given at the reception - usually during the receiving line. Laotians offer plain envelopes to guest at the reception (usually at the registration table). Gifts are placed in the envelope and deposited in a wedding card/gift box.

So while the traditions are practically rooted, this tradition does not offer us the chance to read the sentimental and thoughtful cards that would normally accompany gifts - not that we're expecting gifts :). So all that we ask is that if you decide to go this route of envelopes, please include a card with your name and thoughts.

For those of you who are destined to shop on-line or in a store, you can check out our gift registry at Crate & Barrel (link below).

Thanks so much!
